After a breakout first full season in the IRL in 2002, Alex Barron has been trying to regain his form and break into the IRL's top 10 in the point standings.
After spending a number of seasons in CART, Barron moved to the Indy Racing League part time in 2001 before competing full time starting in 2002. In that first full season, Barron scored one win and four top five finishes in 15 starts on his way to a fifth place finish in the championship standings.
Unfortunately for Barron, he has yet to replicate that type of season since. In 2005 he began regaining his form, scoring two top five and six top 10 results to finish 11th overall for the season.
Before the San Diego native split his time in 2001, Barron competed on a part-time basis with Dale Coyne's CART team in 2000. He spent two full seasons in CART with Dan Gurney's team in 1998 and 1999 (part time with Roger Penske's team). His best CART finish was an eighth at California Speedway's 2-mile oval in 2000.
Before competing in CART, Barron was the champion in Toyota Atlantics in 1997 as well as Rookie of the Year. He also has experience in Formula 2000.
