Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans have the opportunity to go behind the scenes with the No. 88 team in AMP Energy's "6 Days to Race Day" DVD.
Available exclusively on specially marked 4-packs of AMP Energy, the DVD takes viewers along for the ride from teardown from the previous race to when the cars get loaded for the next race.
"Shooting the DVDs, things like that are always fun," Earnhardt Jr. said. "Especially behind the scenes, because it's not typically what you are normally filming. It's kind of the break from the norm for me, my team and everything else."
Seventy-five pairs of hands touch the car during the week and over 500 man hours go into each car. Before the cars head to the track a checklist of 250 items must be completed.
"It's great to be able to show the fans what that process is like and it's great to be able to show some of the guys that make that happen," Earnhardt Jr. said.
During the week, Earnhardt Jr. visits the shop to meet with crew members, helps get the seat ready and sometimes he drives the car during pit stop practice.
"We do have a lot of fun in preparing for the race and all those days leading up to the race," Earnhardt Jr. said.
The DVD also takes you away from the track and shows Earnhardt Jr. racing go-karts at his "Dirty Mo Acres" track, and attending special events like last year's 25th anniversary celebration for Hendick Motorsports.
But one of the most interesting parts of the DVD is the process of painting the 2010 paint AMP paint scheme.
After the completion, the car design was unveiled to the team in the DVD. And although Earnhardt Jr. personally approved the design, he came up with a last-minute decision for the color of the splitter when he saw the finished product.
This year marks AMP Energy's third season as a sponsor of Earnhardt Jr. at Hendrick Motorsports. AMP will be on the No. 88 Chevrolet 16 times in 2010 including three special paint schemes, one of which can be seen next weekend at Martinsville Speedway.
