Jeff Gordon's sixth-place finish in Sunday's AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway wasn't what the four-time series champion had hoped for at the "Monster Mile."
Gordon ran near the front of the race but a late pit stop dropped him back and forced him to scramble just to come home with a top-10 finish.
"I'm really disappointed," Gordon said. "I feel like we had a second-place car and when you have a second-place car you've got to finish second or contend for the win. We had a problem with a gun on pit road, and I don't know what you do about that but we'll try to fix it for the next time. It's just nice to run good. The No. 48 [of winner Johnson] was in a league of their own, but I felt like we were second best."
Even with the disappointment, the finish was his first top 10 in The Chase.
After two races in the Chase Gordon finds himself eighth in the standings with a 122-point deficit to series point leader Mark Martin.
