Season-to-Date Driver Ratings

Tony Stewart continues to hold off the rest of the field in both the power rankings and the points with solid finishes as the regular season begins to wind down. RacingOne's rankings are based on a combination of season-to-date loop data, season standings and staff selections by Jeff Wackerlin and Rachael West.

1. Tony Stewart: Stewart was close for the win Sunday before rain ended the race early. He led once for 40 laps during the race and had to settle for his 11th top-five finish in 21 career starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Stewart's fifth-place finish is his ninth top-five of the season, and gives him a series-leading 13 top-10s in 17 races. Stewart's only victories at Daytona have come in the summer race when he won back-to-back races in a Chevrolet in 2005 and 2006. His average finish in 10 starts in the Coke Zero 400 is 16.3.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 104.1
Point Standing: First
Last Week's Ranking: First

2. Jeff Gordon: Gordon moved back up to second in the power rankings after finishing second in Sunday's New Hampshire race. He led six times at the track for 64 laps, leading there for the first time in four races. Gordon led 46 laps in last year's July 4th weekend Daytona race but finished 30th. He's won three summer races and has an overall average finish in 33 starts of 15.1 at the track.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 103.9
Point Standing: Second
Last Week's Ranking: Third

3. Jimmie Johnson: Johnson continues to have the best season-to-date driver rating after leading a race-high 93 laps in the LENOX Industrial Tools 301. He led the laps early in the race but couldn't contend for the win after suffering damage in a brush with the No. 2 car. Johnson still managed to finish ninth. At Daytona, Johnson has only finished in the top 10 once (10th in this race in 2007) since winning the 2006 Daytona 500. His average finish of 15.0 at the track is bolstered by eight top 10s in 15 starts.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 108.5
Point Standing: Third
Last Week's Ranking: Second

4. Kasey Kahne: Kahne moved within one point out of 12th in the standings and up a few spots in the rankings after backing up his Infineon victory with a 10th-place finish at New Hampshire. He raced as high as fifth prior to a stop around lap 135 when the No. 9 took four tires, while those in front of them opted for two. All of Kahne's six top-10 finishes this season have been back-to-back and he can't seem to gain more than two consecutive top 10s. He'll try to earn a third consecutive top 10 at Daytona where he posted four straight top-10 finishes in 2007 and 2008.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 86.1
Point Standing: 13th
Last Week's Ranking: Sixth

5. Juan Pablo Montoya: Montoya is barely holding on to a spot in the Chase after finishing 12th in Sunday's NHMS race. It was his career best finish at the 1.058-mile oval. Montoya is coming off his career-best finish at DIS - a 14th-place finish this February. He has an average finish of 27.0 in five starts.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 84.9
Point Standing: 12th
Last Week's Ranking: Fifth

6. Denny Hamlin: Hamlin dropped a few spots in the rankings after battling handling on his car at Loudon to a 15th-place finish. He managed to gain a spot in the standings though with the result. Hamlin has yet to finish within the top 15 in seven starts at Daytona. He has an average finish of 26.7 at the track.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 95.5
Point Standing: Sixth
Last Week's Ranking: Fourth

7. Kurt Busch: Busch had a strong car in New Hampshire, where he led 28 laps after moving into the lead from the fourth starting position after only seven laps. The only time he fell out of the top five for the remainder of the race was during the cycling of green-flag pit stops. Busch has posted four consecutive top-10 finishes at Daytona Int'l Speedway and has finished in the top five in four of his last five summer races at the track.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 101.3
Point Standing: Fourth
Last Week's Ranking: N/R

8. Kyle Busch: Busch took some heat for his seventh-place finish in the rain-shortened LENOX Industrial Tools 301 after being blamed for starting a wreck that knocked out several cars. Busch, though, will take the finish as he struggles to remain in Chase contention. It's his first finish in the top 10 in five races. Busch is the defending winner in the summer Daytona race and has finished second or better in all but one of his four summer visits to the track.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 102.8
Point Standing: Eighth
Last Week's Ranking: N/R

9. Joey Logano: Logano makes his third power rankings appearance after becoming the youngest Cup winner when he won Sunday's rain-shortened NHMS race. The No. 20 Toyota driver, who had damaged his car earlier in a Lap 183 incident and fallen a lap down, was fortunate enough to catch a caution and get the "lucky dog" free pass back onto the lead lap later in the race. His win came with the help of crew chief Greg Zipadelli who called for fuel at the right time and who made the decision to keep him out with rain approaching. Logano gained three spots in the standings. He'll be making his second career Cup start at Daytona, where he finished 43rd this February after crashing from the ninth starting position.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 65.2
Point Standing: 21st
Last Week's Ranking: N/R

10. Carl Edwards: Edwards suffered a tough race at New Hampshire to finish 19th after starting fifth. He looks to get back on track at Daytona where he finished a career-best second at the track last summer. His only top-10 finishes at the track have come in the last two summer races. In nine total starts at DIS, Edwards has a 21.4 average finish.

Season-to-Date Driver Rating: 94.1
Point Standing: Fifth
Last Week's Ranking: Eighth
