Last weekend, Kenny Perry came up short of becoming golf's oldest major champion when he barely missed winning the Masters at 48 years, 8 months and 2 days.
Perry was looking to eclipse Jack Nicklaus' win in the 1986 Masters at 46 years, 2 months, 23 days.
While that was happening Joey Logano made more NASCAR history by becoming the only driver to win two Nationwide races at the age of 18 with his victory at Nashville Superspeedway.
Since age was the talk over the weekend, RacingOne takes a look at the oldest winners at each of the tracks on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule.
Harry Gant holds the title of oldest race winner at 52 years, 219 days after winning the 1992 Champion Spark Plug 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Gant passed Darrell Waltrip with 14 laps-to-go in that race and went on to capture his 18th and final victory of his 22-year career.
Gant also holds the distinction of being the oldest winner at six other tracks on the circuit (Martinsville, Talladega, Richmond, Darlington, Dover and Pocono). His youngest age out of that group of tracks came at Pocono at 50 years, 5 months, 7 days.
Morgan Shepherd and Bobby Allison are two other drivers that hold the title of oldest race winner of an event at an age over 50.
Shepherd's win came in 1993 when he took the checkered flag at Atlanta Motor Speedway behind the wheel of the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford at the age of 51 years, 5 months, 8 days. The victory was also the last by a driver over the age of 50.
Shepherd, who last competed in a Sprint Cup event in 2006, also is one of five drivers that have run a Cup Series event over the age of 60. The others are Hershel McGriff (65), Jim Fitzgerald (65), Dave Marcis (61) and Dick Trickle (60).
Allison's win at Daytona International Speedway in 1988 was one of the most memorable in NASCAR history when he took the checkered flag over his son, Davey. Allison won the Daytona 500 at the age of 50 years, 2 month, 11 days.
Mark Martin has the best shot to set new records as the oldest race winner at some of the tracks on the schedule. Martin, who turned 50 this past January, could set the mark at 13 of the tracks left on the schedule starting with Phoenix this weekend.
