Peyton Sellers was stripped of his Camping World East Series victory at Greenville-Pickens Speedway after NASCAR found his car to have an illegal shock.
The ruling surprised the Andy Santerre Motorsports team and driver who were given a 30th place finish with second place finisher Austin Dillon awarded the victory.
"Needless to say we are shocked and disappointed,” team owner Andy Santerre said. “We are being made an example.”
“We admit there was a rules infraction,” Santerre said in a statement. “It was a shock to us as much as it was unintentional and unknown prior to postrace inspection.
"We conceded that and worked with NASCAR to make sure it was not found in any of the other shocks or on the second ASM car. It was not. We understood there would be ramifications, but to go against past precedent and take the win is disappointing.”
The strict move was in contrast to NASCAR's usual policy of levying fines and penalties if a winning car fails inspection.
