Talladega Superspeedway isn't one of Matt Kenseth's favorite tracks. But he was all smiles after Sunday's UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Kenseth's fourth place finish was good enough to pull him within six points of Jeff Burton's lead in the "Chase for the NEXTEL Cup" standings.
"It was a good points day," Kenseth said. "The car felt good most of the day and we were able to get out front and stay ahead of the most of the wrecks."
Kenseth was running in the sixth spot on the last lap and before the fireworks between Brian Vickers, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Jimmie Johnson ended the race, thought he might have a chance at the win.
"I thought were going to have a shot at it, but we got shuffled back there and we didn't have a drafting partner to pull out of line there at the end," Kenseth said. "It felt good to get some points today and get back up there. It put us back where we can have a shot at it."
After leading the standings coming into the "Chase," Kenseth had fallen back in the points race the last couple of weeks. But with six races left, he now finds himself right back in the thick of the hunt.
"Oth
er than going into Loudon, this is the best spot that we've had, so I feel good about it," he said. "I feel good about getting us some points, and putting us back in the points. We had our we felt like the last few weeks so to have a little good and have a good car and get a good finish feels good."
